Skiers advised to get travel insurance before sloping off on holiday

Around one in four ski or snowboard tourists do not have adequate travel insurance, a new survey reports.
Research released by moneysupermarket.com claims that for those looking for a break on the slopes
"travel insurance is not a high priority". Approximately 12 per cent of all skiiers and snowboarders do not take out any travel insurance.
Meanwhile, 16 per cent were reported to not have sufficient cover for winter sports activities.
Around 22 per cent of ski resort visitors said they could not remember if they had taken out travel insurance at all for their holiday.
Researcher Peter Gerrard: "The millions of people who do take advantage of the chance to perfect their twists and turns cannot afford to skimp on their travel insurance."
He added that by not taking out travel insurance,
tourists are taking a "huge financial risk, both to themselves and potentially to other skiers".
The study also reported that nearly one in five people who go on ski holidays do not spend any time on the slopes, choosing to enjoy the apres ski spirit instead.
A report by Glasgow-based newspaper the Evening Times claimed skiiers and snowboarders should ensure that they get the right level of travel insurancefor activities they wish to take part in before setting off.
