Independent Tells How To Keep First Car Inexpensive

Advice on how to keep a first car inexpensive has been given by the Independent.

Writing in its Car Choice section, James Ruppert considered the case of final-year medical student Avinder Gobindpuri, who wants to buy his first car on a budget to £4,000 to £4,500.

Mr Ruppert suggested a Ford Fiesta or Vauxhall Corsa as he said they have "very low insurance groupings".

In addition, he said they are easy and cheap to repair.

But he singled out the Toyota Yaris for exceptional praise for a first car, noting that the smallest three-door 1.0 model comes under the lowest group-one insurance bracket and has "very reasonable" overall fuel consumption.

The British Insurance Brokers Association recently asserted that car insurance is more expensive in cities, but that this is no reason not to buy it.

Spokesperson Graeme Trudgill advised people to visit insurance brokers who could help to find affordable insurance that can be paid in installments.
