It is estimated that more than 15 million people plan to book their holiday before

the end of the next month but many will fail to purchase competitive holiday insurance, according to Sainsbury's Bank travel insurance. The travel insurance provider estimates that 19 per cent of early bookers are planning to spend over £1,000 per person on their annual holiday but many will not ensure they have an adequate level of holiday insurance cover or will pay over the odds for a policy. In many cases holidaymakers conduct extension research to find the best deal when it comes to their annual trip but then tend to opt for the insurance cover provided by their travel agent rather that shopping around for a policy that meets their needs.

Robert O'May from Sainsbury's Bank travel insurance, explained: "At this time of year when people are planning their next trip it is easy to get excited about destinations, resorts and even flights but travel insurance may seem a little mundane."

He added that it is always worth comparing the price of different policies and obtaining a quote from independent providers in order to find the best priced cover.
